Big Guns Recalled For Driftwood 7s

Mwamba RFC head coach has rung changes to his charges that will take part in this year’s Driftwood 7s at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa this weekend.

Collins Injera, Humphrey Kayange, Brad Owako and Martin Wanjia have been included in the 12-man squad that will be seeking to bounce back from an unsatisfactory performance in Dala 7s last weekend. Driftwood 7s is a tournament that has eluded Kulabu for the last five seasons.

Injera, Kayange and Owako will make their maiden appearances this weekend in the ongoing National Sevens Series. Wanjia has shaken off a shoulder injury incurred in Christie 7s three weeks ago. Hyke Otieno has also impressed head coach Johnny Mbai and will be travelling to Mombasa.

Kevin Atandi is unavailable this weekend and in his absence, Shaban Ahmed will deputise skipper Dan Sikuta. Edwin Machanje, Louis Kisia and Joseph Oriwo will once be required in their best form as Kulabu seek to better their position in the series. Mwamba are currently ranked fifth with 27 points, 15 behind series leaders Kenya Harlequin RFC.

Mwamba are pooled in a tricky Pool A in Driftwood 7s together with Dala 7s winners Nakuru RFC, tricky Kabras Sugar RFC and Thika RFC.

The team will fly to Mombasa tomorrow morning.
