Wishing all Stanbic Mwamba Members, Players, Supporters, Sponsors & Volunteers a very happy New Year!

The end of a calendar year and the middle of a rugby year.

January, the first month of a year, is a unique opportunity to look back at twelve months that contains part of two seasons. While the rest of the world draws a line under 2018 and looks forward to a blank sheet titled 2019, in sport and particularly at Stanbic Mwamba we are just turning a page.

As I write this, fresh in my mind is the state of our dear club that has continued to weather storm after storm and continues to grow in stature and influence despite the many challenges.

We continually face challenges both on and off the pitch but with the solid support of our commercial partners, particularly Stanbic Bank and Modern Coast Bus Limited, members and the staff we have been able to overcome the strongest of turbulence that we have faced.

Money and rugby have become so linked over the last couple years it’s hard to see where it will end up and how our sport more so our club will be affected at every level. Our own team, comprising of the First Team, Reserve Team and The Ladies, has an eye-watering budget.

The Kenya Cup season has just completed the first phase of the league, that had five matches, and despite a slow start to the campaign they have steadily risen on the log. The season continues in January with 3 home games and your support is welcome and valued – see you there.

The reserve side has had a tumultuous campaign so far and the rough ride can be attributed to the relatively inexperienced squad that our technical bench has heavily recruited. At Stanbic Mwamba we welcome anyone and everyone and we give every player an opportunity and it’s just a matter of time before these promising young men turn on the style.

Stanbic Mwamba Rugby simply could not operate without the wonderful volunteers that give a little time and energy to various roles and projects. Of course, the auxiliary coaches do a fantastic job with our teams  and many of them support the boys and girls by coaching, mentoring as well as offering support away from the Club. If you haven’t yet offered some help, please do. You will find it fun, rewarding and tremendously valued by all your friends at the Club.

Other volunteers run parts of the Club you see and some you don’t!

The Club’s Management Team is entirely volunteer run and they are all brilliant as far as I’m concerned. If you have any skills or talents you could offer, you’re always welcome.

I wish you all a prosperous and happy 2019 – continue to support the Club in whatever capacity you can (player, parent, supporter, sponsor, member or volunteer) – it’s a unique and special place and we should celebrate it together.

See you at the match!
