Mwamba RFC’s scrumhalf Charles Kuka has been named in Chipu, the Kenya Under-19 team, that will take part in the Rugby Afrique Division 1A Under 19 competition in Harare.
The young half back put in impressive performances for the club notably in a number of Kenya Cup matches. He was particularly outstanding in Kulabu’s 78-3 demolition of relegated CUEA Monks late last year.
Speaking about the Chipu’s composition, Paul Odera said, ” I think it has been good for us to choose players from across the country. With that I feel it is also a representative team for the country.”
“It is very intense,we are taking of two finals. If we lose, we are playing a final to stay up. If we win, we’re playing in a final to win the tournament.”
Team captain Tyson Okoth said, ” Morale in the team is high. We are confident of a good performance in Harare.”
The team departs the country on Monday 24 August and play a direct semi final against hosts Zimbabwe on Wednesday 26 August. The winner of this match qualifies for the final against the winner of the Namibia-Uganda clash taking place on the same day at the same venue.
Mwamba’s Stella Mwende is also the named in the travelling party as the physiotherapist.
