CITAM to hold morning prayers ahead of Kabeberi 7s Day Two action

Stanbic Mwamba and CITAM Church will on Sunday August 19, 2018 hold a praise and worship service during the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens Day Two action at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

The prayers will be conducted by CITAM Missions, CITAM Buruburu (Stanbic Mwamba official chaplains) in conjunction with Kubamba Crew and Mavuno Church. The service will be held between 7am to 8am and will give an opportunity for teams, travelling fans and local community to pray and fellowship together.

Speaking ahead of the event, tournament director Anthony Karanja said that the prayers are part of the rugby festivals and meant to bring together the rugby fraternity. “We want everyone to feel part of Kabeberi 7s. Those who would like to join us for a session of praise and worship are welcome,” he said.

In April 2017, CITAM Buruburu partnered with Stanbic Mwamba to offer mentorship and chaplaincy services. “We will offer discipleship and mentorship sessions for the players and management, organise regular prayer sessions at the club,” Pastor Ken Kimiye said during the launch of the partnership.

CITAM Buruburu also offered an opportunity to Mwamba Rugby to reach out to their school (CITAM Primary and Secondary School) and community around, by organising coaching clinics and community outreach programs as the club deems fit.

The Kabeberi Sevens Prayers Service has been organized by CITAM Urban Missions Coordinator Pastor Purity Murungi.

Kabeberi Sevens is the third leg of the Stanbic National Sevens Circuit. It will be hosted by Stanbic Mwamba at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos starting from August 17-19.

KABEBERI SEVENS

The George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens, popularly known as the Kabeberi Sevens, was first played in 1986 to commemorate the passing away of the charismatic George Mwangi Kabeberi, one of the founding members of the Mwamba club.

Over the years, the significance of the tournament has been expanded to honour departed club members, including recently departed Leeroy Okara, Absalom “Bimbo” Mutere, Abedeen Shikoyi, and Jimmy Owino and lately Victor Wayodi among others.

The 2018 edition of the Kabeberi Sevens is scheduled to be played  on August 17-19 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
