FANZONE: Why I bleed black…

By Eunice Olembo

On one hand it is finding the words that do justice to the emotions but on the other hand it is why am I being restricted to just 300 words to describe my passion for Mwamba RFC?! Now you have to understand, Rugby on it’s own is the sport played in heaven, but when the mighty black shirts take to the pitch….. My oh my! It’s like the whole host of angels have descended from heaven and taken to the pitch, Angle Gabriel, Saint Peter, the full shebang!

So why do I love Mwamba RFC? Because we bleed black on and off the pitch. It is that simple. It is more than the crunching tackles and the nail biting, malaria inducing (I am still in the process of looking for an ajua league because kusema ukweli my heart is weak), and the ulcer- causing games….It is about the brotherhood and sisterhood that I have seen on and off the pitch.

It’s in the exhilaration …the camaraderie…..it’s in the friendly banter that takes place in the stands. It is in the sheer fact that everyone who adorns that black shirt, leaves it all on the pitch and on the stands for that matter. From shouting ourselves hoarse, to those who take out their frustrations on innocent water bottles (unajijua!). We are a family….plain and simple, hehe the so called R-Family Budaaa (Look for Mupet for the Genesis of the story) “We few. We happy few. We band of brothers, for he today That sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother.”
