Felix Otieno has been confirmed as Mwamba Rugby Club’s captain for the 2021/22 season, the club’s technical bench has announced.
Otieno, fondly known as Top Dog, has been donning the armband since the start of the season as a new look Kulabu battles for honours.
Edwin Waita, the club’s Director of Rugby, confirmed the appointment pointing out the centre’s commitment and leadership qualities as what made him stand out. “Top Dog has been with the club for almost ten years, coming through the ranks. His commitment to the club is unmatched and he has shown tremendous leadership qualities both on and off the pitch. He deserves this role,” he said.
The hard-running centre said that he is looking forward to the new responsibility and is ready to lead Kulabu back to the top. “This is an absolute honour for me to be named the captain of this great club. I’m ready to rally my troops and lead them on the pitch as well as off the pitch. I want to thank the management for this privilege as well as the fans for their immense undying support. Together we shall take Kulabu where it belongs,” he said.
Otieno has been playing in the unfamiliar Number 8 position in the absence of the dependable Tonny Owuor. He however adapted well to the new role scoring twice in three matches. Owuor is back and Otieno shifts back to his preferred position in the midfield.
Top Dog will be deputized by half back Charles Chege with a rotating pack leader. Kelvin Juma will be the other assistant for this weekend’s game against Blak Blad at KCB Sports Club starting from 1.00pm.
