Mwamba RFC hit Homeboyz RFC 13-11 in a thrilling Kenya Cup encounter played on Saturday 20 February 2016 afternoon at Nairobi Railway Club extending their winning streak to four.
The Deejays were off first on the scoreboard with Harun Lubisia drop goal and penalty. Flyhalf Shaban Ahmed would bring the Black Shirts back into the game with a penalty halving the scores to 3-6.
Winger Hyke Otieno landed the first try of the afternoon but Ahmed was unable to add the extras for a 8-6 halftime lead.
Kulabu came from the break a hungry lot and kept the Deejays on back foot. Head coach Johnnie Mbai pulled off a tiring Shaban Ahmed and threw in the experienced Lavin Asego.
The change had immediate impact as Lavin had a massive kick that crossed the whitewash at 5 metre mark. The resultant line out was won by the impressive Humphrey Kayange and Homeboyz couldn’t deal with the maul. Edwin Pablo Machanje peeled off the maul to land in the corner stretching the lead to 13-6.
Deejays would score at the buzzer but failed to convert bringing the scores to 13-11 at the end of the tie.
Mwamba will travel to Thika for a return leg against Thika RFC on Saturday 27 February 2016.
