Ngong Rocks are the inaugural Aberdeen Shikhoyi champions after blanking Thika Road 36-12 in an entertaining match played at Impala Club on Sunday 27 June 2016.
Ngong Rocks comprising of players from the disbanded Kenya Harlequins, Mwamba RFC, Impala RFC and Homeboyz RFC were in superior form dashing to a 29-0 lead with a half an hour. Linet Moraa and Mary Musieka were unstoppable running in four tries.
Thika Road would come from the break a hungrier lot scoring two tries from international Phila Olando and USIU’s Imogen Emily. But that was the end of their scoring. Doreen Remor and Sophie Ayieta touched down for Ngong Rocks to seal the win. Thika Road Franchise was made up of KCB, Kenyatta University BladBabes, USIU and Shamas.
Shikhoyi succumbed to a fatal injury sustained while on national duty against Uganda’s Lady Cranes. She represented the national team in both the Sevens and Fifteens version of the game. Her life is also celebrated during the annual Kabeberi Sevens tournament. This year’s tournament will take place on August 13-14th at RFUEA Grounds.
