Stanbic Mwamba Ladies name new captains

Kenya international Janet “Shebesh” Okello has been named the Stanbic Mwamba Ladies captain for the season.

Okello will be assisted by utility back Agatha Jamari. The changes were announced by Ladies coach Joseph Baabu and took effect on Sunday during the first leg of the Kenya Rugby Women’s Festival first leg held at Kenyatta University grounds.

Stanbic Mwamba Ladies beat rivals Northern Suburbs 19-0 to clinch their first title of the season.

Okello and Jamari take over from international loosehead Evelyn Kalamera and lock Steph Waithira.

Commenting on the changes, Babu said: “Okello and Jamari will be the overall captains and will be tasked with leading the team into the new season. However, we might have rotating matchday captains as we build leadership capacities among the team. I would also want to thank Kalemera and Steph for their exemplary leadership for the past seasons.”

Stanbic Mwamba Ladies is currently preparing for the second leg of KRU Women’s Festival to be hosted by Northern Suburbs at KCB’s Lions Den.
