Eliakim Kichoi has been appointed captain of the Stanbic Mwamba men’s sevens team for the upcoming season.
The Kulabu veteran, who takes over the reins from the unavailable long-time skipper Brad Owako, has represented the Black Shirts for six years. He will be assisted by Ronnie Omondi and Daniel Taabu. Greg Odhiambo is also part of the team’s leadership group.
Stanbic Mwamba is currently preparing for Stanbic National Sevens Circuit that kicks off this weekend with Prinsloo 7s. The team is under the watchful eye of Kevin Wambua assisted by Louis Kisia.
The George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens, popularly known as the Kabeberi Sevens, was first played in 1986 to commemorate the passing away of the charismatic George Mwangi Kabeberi, one of the founding members of the Mwamba club.
Over the years, the significance of the tournament has been expanded to honour departed club members, including recently departed Leeroy Okara, Absalom “Bimbo” Mutere, Abedeen Shikoyi, and Jimmy Owino and lately Victor Wayodi among others.
The 2018 edition of the Kabeberi Sevens is scheduled to be played on August 17-19 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
