Mwamba Rugby Football Club have won the Women's edition of the 2024 Impala Floodlit rugby tournament. The three-peat Women's Kenya Cup champions won the Floodlit tournament for the fourth time in a row, cementing their dominance as Kenya's premier women's rugby team. Coached by Joseph "Babu" Odindi and captained by Stacy "Nasty" Atieno, this may very well be Mwamba's easiest ever victory as they won the championship without touching the ball after their would-be opponents in the final, Impala RFC women, failed to show up at their own grounds for the final of a tournament that they were hosting. A disappointed coach Odindi told Mwamba Rugby Media that the Mwamba ladies had been extremely well prepared and had been looking forward to giving Impala a run for their money at their own back yard yet again. Captain Stacy Atieno also expressed disappointment at their opponents' no show but was elated to be crowned champions again. "We were at the pitch, we had warmed up and ready for the kick off when we got word that Impala were not coming to the ground" she told Mwamba Rugby Media. The team now shifts their focus to their preparations to defend the Kenya Cup league, which begins later this month.

Last weekend marked a historic moment for Mwamba Rugby Club with the return of its Nationwide team, Kulabu, in the 2024/2025 KRU Nationwide Nairobi Region campaign. This revival taps into the team’s legacy, previously known as Pebbles, which trained near the swimming pool at the iconic Nairobi Railways Club. Notably, the Nationwide team last featured in the 2015/2016 season, with current senior players, including captain Brian Kahura, having been part of its roster back then. The relaunch of Kulabu underscores the club's focus on nurturing emerging talent. With a growing number of players—ranging from age-grade graduates to promising recruits—the team provides a platform for all players to showcase their abilities, especially those unable to secure game time in the ESS squad. This initiative highlights the club's commitment to fostering growth while maintaining its signature free-flowing rugby style across all teams, including the record-breaking Mwamba Ladies side. Kulabu’s games will run alongside the Kenya Cup season for both Men and Ladies teams, ensuring action-packed weekends featuring all four Mwamba teams. This alignment reflects the management's vision of creating a seamless player pathway while reinforcing the club's identity. Come cheer on the Kulabu team as they embark on this exciting new journey, and don’t forget to bring a friend along to share the thrill!

Mwamba Rugby Club showcased its incredible rebuilding efforts as it fielded four teams across three venues during the opening weekend of the Kenya Cup season, marking a significant milestone in the club's storied history. Despite mixed results on the pitch, the feat reflects the club’s determination and commitment to its legacy. The senior men’s team, battling their way back to the top, faced Kenya Harlequin at RFUEA Grounds. Despite a spirited performance, they fell 22-55 to their experienced opponents. The ESS side, also at RFUEA, showed grit but succumbed 5-70 in their encounter. Meanwhile, Mwamba’s development side traveled to Impala Club to take on Swara Rugby, the Impala RFC development team. Unfortunately, the match was called off due to the absence of an ambulance, a mandatory requirement for play. The highlight of the weekend came from Mwamba Ladies, three-time Kenya Cup champions, who delivered a commanding performance at Ngong Racecourse. They shut out NYS Ladies with an emphatic 91-0 victory, setting the tone for a promising season. Mwamba Rugby Club Chairman, Jason Braganza, expressed immense pride in the club’s resilience and growth. “Fielding four teams on opening weekend is a testament to the hard work happening behind the scenes. From the Executive Members to the technical bench, team management, and our loyal fans, this achievement belongs to all of us. We are rebuilding with purpose, and I urge everyone to keep supporting these players who are giving their all for the badge.” Braganza also acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about the club’s trajectory. “It’s a hard slog, but we’re determined to get there. This is just the beginning of something great. Let’s continue to grow with these players and ensure Mwamba Rugby remains a powerhouse.” Mwamba Rugby Club’s ability to field four teams—a feat rarely matched in Kenyan rugby—signals a resurgence for the club, built on teamwork, grit, and a shared vision for success. Fans and supporters can look forward to more action-packed weekends as the season unfolds. #Rfamily

Mwamba Rugby Football Club is proud to announce a new partnership with the Goan Institute, marking a significant milestone in the club’s journey after three years of searching for a permanent home following its exit from the historic Nairobi Railway Club.
